The Lawyers at Becker, Schroader & Chapman, P.C. announce a $250,000 settlement for AFSCME Retiree injured at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel and Conference Center in Springfield, Illinois.

An 89-year-old AFSCME retiree who broke her right elbow when a bellboy at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel ran her over with a luggage cart has settled her personal injury lawsuit against the management company responsible for the hotel for $250,000. Arlou Waller, the injured plaintiff, was represented by attorney Matthew Chapman of Becker, Schroader & Chapman, P.C.

On June 18, 2009, Ms. Waller of Alton, Illinois checked-in to the hotel to attend a meeting of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. The accident resulted in a broken elbow and substantial medical expenses. The lawsuit was filed in Sangamon County state court and settled prior to jury selection on July 16, 2012.

Chapman notes, "It was a pleasure representing Ms. Waller, who was a state employee for 30 years and, after retirement, started a bookkeeping business that is still operating today. She fought for her day in court and was rewarded with a fair settlement."
